VIMA Art Fair 2026
Artists:
Uta Bekaia, Aleksey Dubinsky, Ani Toidze
Booth: C5
For the VIMA Cyprus Art Fair Window Project, Tbilisi presents three contemporary artists working across distinct media: Uta Bekaia (ceramics), Aleksey Dubinsky (painting), and Ani Toidze (works on paper). Each artist is represented through a single medium, enabling a focused investigation of materiality and perception. Across the presentation, white surfaces - glazed ceramic, primed canvas, and paper - function as a unifying conceptual ground, activated by subtle interventions of color, mark, and form that articulate the transformative trajectories of human experience.
Bekaia’s white-glazed ceramic forms evoke processes of corporeal transformation and mutation, reflecting both individual and collective experiences of change. Dubinsky’s figurative paintings engage themes of vulnerability, fate, and the psychological dimensions of existence, situating the human figure within states of tension and introspection. Toidze’s works on paper suspend figures and objects within ontologically indeterminate spaces, foregrounding notions of freedom, self-awareness, and the precariousness of being. In each practice, whiteness operates not as absence, but as an active perceptual field through which presence, transformation, and temporality are seen and experienced.
Historically, white surfaces have functioned as sites of philosophical and perceptual inquiry. Kazimr Malevich described whiteness as a conduit for “pure feeling,” while Robert Rauschenberg’s White Paintings serve as “a frame for what you see on the wall or out the window,” emphasising interaction with light, environment, and perception. In this project, white surfaces unify heterogeneous media, facilitating a dialogue in which material, gesture, and human transformation converge.
