Represented Artists: Aleksey Dubinsky, Ninka Skhiereli

Window Project, presents Ninka Skhiereli and Aleksey Dubinsky, bringing together large-scale paintings from Skhiereli’s All the Angels series with Dubinsky’s Clouds series. The presentation considers painting as a site where landscape, perception, memory, and subjectivity become unstable and mutually permeable.

In Skhiereli’s All the Angels, landscape is transformed into an immersive psychic and energetic field. Her abstract, landscape-inspired canvases operate through layered movement, fluid forms, and charged colour, resisting any fixed distinction between the external world and inner experience. Drawing on a postmodern baroque sensibility, Skhiereli brings seemingly autonomous and contradictory elements into a state of continuous interrelation. Nature becomes less a subject than a dynamic condition, a space in which matter, consciousness, energy, and perception converge and dissolve into one another. Her paintings propose a form of visual experience in which the boundaries of the individual remain permeable, opening onto a larger, interconnected field of existence.

Dubinsky’s Clouds approaches the natural world from a radically different register. Against expansive white grounds, academically rendered clouds coexist with simplified, almost childlike suns. The works establish a precise tension between cultivated pictorial knowledge and the directness of an elementary image. The cloud, rendered with observational discipline, and the sun, reduced to a near-symbol, occupy the same pictorial space without resolving their contradiction. Between them emerges a meditation on how images are formed, remembered, and invested with meaning.

The apparent simplicity of Dubinsky’s paintings conceals a more complex inquiry into perception and memory. Nature becomes a psychological image, suspended between observation and recollection, innocence and experience. The white surface functions as an open field in which familiar motifs become strangely detached from their ordinary context, allowing questions of absence, vulnerability, and the construction of reality to enter the work.

Placed in dialogue, Skhiereli and Dubinsky offer two distinct propositions for contemporary painting. Skhiereli expands the landscape into a metaphysical and affective environment; Dubinsky reduces it to a few elementary signs through which memory and perception are activated. Their practices meet in the space between the seen and the experienced, where nature is neither background nor representation, but a medium through which consciousness encounters itself. The presentation proposes vulnerability not as a condition of weakness, but as a productive state of openness: to the instability of perception, to memory, to nature, and to the forces that connect the individual to a larger field of experience.
